Dennis Gilbert
Dennis Gilbert is a representational painter who enjoys painting landscapes, flowers, portraits and nudes. His paintings are based on a sound training in draughtsman ship which he obtained during his student years at St Martin's School of Art. He works in oil, watercolour and pastel.
Dennis has exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Paris Salon, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Contemporary Portrait Society, the Turin International Exhibition of Drawings and at many commercial galleries. His works are to be found in private collections in Britain and abroad, including France, Italy, Japan, USA, Canada, Sweden and Holland.
He delights in painting the country and the town and is especially fond of London, Venice and Paris, towns with picturesque parks, waterways and buildings. The Thames Valley and Venetian canals are recurring themes in his work.
Until 1986, Dennis was a Senior Lecturer at Chelsea School of Art, but he now paints full time. He belongs to a number of professional groups, including the New English Art Club, the Society of Landscape Painters and the National Society of Painters.
Dennis Gilbert lives and works in Chelsea, where he has a traditional studio, built in the Arts and Crafts style. He has many painter and musician friends and enjoys good music, food and wine and good company.
