Joel Wareing
Joel was born in South Africa in 1982. In 2001 he moved to England to continue his studies and further his art career. He has studied in Loughborough, Bolton and will soon be starting an MA at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. Joel has exhibited in both South Africa and England and his work has proven to be very popular with the public. Last year he was involved in a month long residency and exhibition with his father and well-known South African artist Rob Wareing.
Joel's work focuses mainly on people in urban environments with specific attention to body language and strong dramatic sunlight. Over the past few years he has produced numerous series of paintings based on London and the south of England. He says about his work:
"Having grown up in Africa has affected the way I see light. I seem to intensify it in my paintings. I enjoy the idea of painting English scenery with an African palette."
